The Rugby Youth Foundation is a Public Benevolent
Institution that aims to create long standing change
within the Australian community by providing
disadvantaged and at-risk young people between the
ages of 8 and 21, who have the least access, with
programs and services that help them succeed in life
and be a part of their communities.
Our Organisation
The
Foundation, which was founded through a generosity
of an anonymous English benefactor following the
2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia, commenced operations in
2005. It has been endorsed as a Public
Benevolent Institution with Deductible Gift
Recipient status by the Australian Tax Office (this
means all donations over $2.00 can be claimed as tax
deductions) and is an income tax exempt charity. It is governed by a Board of Trustees
and receives expert advice and support from a range
of individuals and organisations.
What we do
We run
programs for young people living in
troubled or disadvantaged areas. The programs aim to overcome
social exclusion and to build self-esteem, resilience
and team spirit in young participants, as well as
providing leadership opportunities for older
students to become coaches and mentors and leaders
in their communities. As well, the programs
provides pathways to further training and
qualifications.
We hold events
throughout the year to raise awareness of, and funds
for, our programs.
Why we do it
The reality
is that many young people face significant barriers
to participation in activities that most of us take
for granted.
For young Australians living in depressed areas the
problems of poverty, homelessness and social
exclusion are a daily reality. We aim to reach
out and engage these children, who are also often
deprived of material objects and support.
Who we are
The
Foundation's Trustees and advisors are representative of the
broader community, with expertise in business, youth
advocacy, communications and not for profit
organisations.
