"The most important thing
I've got out of being a coach is watching the kids
having fun and having the opportunity to become
better at what they are striving to achieve".
Airds Youth Coach
on the impact of becoming a coach.Rugby in the Park in Airds is supported by Airds
High School and many of the area's community
workers, including Work Ventures Enterprise Centre and
Department of Housing. The program is held on
Thursday afternoons from 4.00 p.m at Merino Park
(behind the Briar Road Public School). Airds High
School students have been trained as Coach Mentors -
with over 20 students completing NSWRU pathway and Smart
Rugby coaching accreditation. In 2006 they
had the opportunity to undertake more training, both
rugby related and general life skills - including
mentoring and leadership - and in 2007 have formed
the first Rugby in the Park youth committee, coached
alongside the Brumbies at the annual Macquarie Bank
Sports clinic at St Joseph's College and assisted at
the ARU's Camp Wallaby school holiday camp held at
Riverview.
