OUR FIRST PROGRAM KICKS OFF
Sydney, 29 October 2005
Rugby in the Park
is up and running in Airds, Claymore and Minto.
The first of the Foundation's programs,
Rugby in the Park
aims to reach out and engage disadvantaged
children, who have the least access, in a structured
but fun after-school program, based at school and
community park locations. Every week between
40-60 young people are catered for in each location.
Participants are provided with fresh fruit and a
barbeque at each session, ensuring they are properly
fed. More than 75% of participants previously
had no physical or structured activity after school.

Youth Leaders
from Airds High School |
"A key
element of the program is the development of
senior students to take on leadership roles"
Rugby in the Park
is also a 'program within a program'
offering a development experience for high
school students to become Youth
Coach/Mentors, and to acquire the
confidence, skills and interest levels
needed to design and carry out projects and
become leaders. The young people
volunteer to become part of the program and
act as role models both to their peers and
younger children in the program. |
